Welcome To Heritage Hills Baptist Church!
Our Beginnings
In 1967, Avondale First Baptist Church and Glenwood Hills Baptist Church felt God's need for a Southern Baptist Church in a quickly expanding area of south DeKalb County. The two churches combined their financial support with $19,000 that had been willed to the Atlanta Association for the purpose of starting a new church in the area, and the Joint Mission Committee purchased nineteen acres of land on Flat Shoals Road. Joe M. Hughes was called as pastor of the mission.
On July 2 of that year, the Flat Shoals Baptist Mission met for the first time. On January 7, 1968, the mission was constituted as Heritage Hills Baptist Church with eighty-five charter members, and just over a year later the first worship service was held in its sanctuary.
Our Foundations
In 1986, after ten months of study, prayer, and seeking God's will, Heritage Hills Baptist Church was relocated to Rockdale County. In 1995 the church dedicated its new sanctuary and Family Life Center, and in 2001 a state-of-the-art preschool and children's building joined them. Pastor Joe retired in 2003 after thirty-six years of faithful service.
Today, Heritage Hills remains in Rockdale County and is blessed with over a thousand members, continuing in its mission "to know God and make Him known."
